Investigations
Whenever the fire department responds to a fire in its jurisdiction, the chief officers are required to determine the origin and cause of a fire. One of the many requirements to be one of our chiefs is you must have successfully completed a fire investigation course. This enables our chiefs to recognize when a fire may have been intentionally set and a crime has occured.
Several of our chiefs and a few of our members have exceeded the basic requirement and have become certified fire investigators through NYS OFPC. These members are required to attend a set number of hours, either in actual origin and cause determination or classroom refresher training.
Arson has been proven to be one of the hardest of all crimes to prosecute and prove the incident was intentional.
