Suppression

Suppression is the most recognized duty of any fire department. When people think of the fire department, this is the first service that comes to mind. Our members go through many hours of training to fight various types of fires, ranging from normal house structure fires, outdoor brush fires and vehicle fires to industrial fires involving dangerous materials.

Firefighting is not as glamorous as it is made out to be on TV and in the movies. Despite popular belief, a fire is not bright and easy to see in. In fact, many times it is difficult to see your partner who is only a few feet in front of or behind you. Special tools are used to see in this environment, which our members are trained to use. Other fires, such as vehicle fires, also take on inherent dangers specifically associated with them.
