So you are weary of becoming a member. Well, here is some information for you.
Not all members run into buring building, climb tall ladders or jump over tall buildings. Ok, the last one we threw in there, but the other ones are true. Many members do not even come to calls, but are very dedicated and needed by the fire company. There are many aspects of the fire department that require people that does not involve active participation in emergency work. Some does. It depends on what you can and cant do. We will never ask you to do something above and beyond your ability, but would ask you to help in whatever and whenever you could.
Did you know that we are 100 % Volunteer. Thats right. None of our members are paid to respond to calls for service. We are trained at the same standards as paid "professional" firefighters with our only compensation being the satisfaction of a job well done.
Even though we are not paid, there are benefits. Talk about a resume builder, or a way to meet people in the community. We are tied into just about everything that happens in Oriskany. From Little League to Christmas events, you will see the FD there working on something. We also have other benefits. We host a family picnic for our members, have different sport events that we participate in and even have different functions that we attend as groups. We may be dedicted, but we like to have fun to.
