A brief overview of the Department
Currently, the Department runs approximately 400 calls each
year. Emergency Medical Services, Rescue, Fire, and Hazardous Materials
Response are just some of the many emergency services that are provided
to our community and surrounding areas at no charge. Our Department is
located in Oneida County, NY between the cities of Rome and Utica. Our
current membership roster has approximately 50 active firefighters who
work hard to continue the Department's legacy of "neighbors helping
neighbors" since 1900. Our fire protection district includes the entire
Village of Oriskany and the northwestern portion of the Town of
Whitestown, and is diverse with agriculture, commercial, industrial and
residential areas. The fire protection district covers about 26 square
miles, which includes several major transportation corridors, numerous
governmental building complexes, and a business park comprised of light
industrial manufacturing and office buildings. Over half of our fire
district has hydrants that are maintained by the Oneida County Airport
and the Upper Mohawk Valley Water Authority.
Our members strive to be well trained, as are the many other
firefighters and emergency medical technicians in Oneida County and New
York State. We share fire district borders with the following fire
departments: City of Rome, Stanwix Heights, Stittville, Westmoreland and
Whitesboro. Other nearby departments include: Clark Mills, Floyd,
Maynard, New York Mills, and Yorkville. Because of the close proximity
of our neighboring fire companies, we always enjoy the opportunity to
work and train with them, to share experiences and techniques, and to
increase every everyone's level of knowledge and awareness of the ever
changing field of emergency services.
